The function of the vessel when working for Clyde Herring Carriers was to collect the fishijng fleet's catch and transport it to market as quickly as possible – herring did not have a significant 'shelf life', especially in the warm summer months, and the use of ice was not yet predominant.
According to an entry in the Edinburgh Gazette, dated 25th May 1956, the Company Clyde Herring Carriers Ltd was dissolved on 25th May 1956 under Section 353 (5) of the Companies Act of 1948. Coincidentally, or perhaps not coincidental, this was the same month that their DUTIFUL was sent to Troon for scrapping.
